What’s a hack to make workplace learning really stick?

Sam Harrowfield

If you have dedicated precious hours to learning, paid for an expert to drop knowledge bombs on your people (complete with robust conversations), all with the goal of making them more awesome than they already are…

Then make the learning stick by:

✳️ Selling it –  look out for and share stories of the learning applied, noting down the specific behaviour change and positive outcomes for the individuals and/or business.
✳️ Encourage your team to talk to someone about what they have learned. By regurgitating the material within 24  – 48 hours, it is well reinforced in the mind of the learner.
✳️ Pair the team up, creating learning buddies who can get together to talk through the material and how they are applying it.
✳️ Hold a learning reinforcement session within a short time frame (2 weeks) with small groups to discuss the learning, troubleshoot specific situations, share insights and identify any workflow points where new actions can be consistently applied.
✳️ Provide 1-1 coaching to individuals who specifically struggle to grasp the learnings, or are stuck in their ability to apply them.
✳️ Recognise and reward progress. Incentivise staff to get the learnings into action.
✳️ Use 1-1s and reviews to hold participants accountable to the investment that was made.
